Welcome to The Hermit's Hearth

Are you an introvert? Suspect you might be an introvert? If it's true, then you belong to a group that makes up about 25% of the world's population. In some societies, your personality traits will be celebrated, and in some, such as most western cultures, you will probably feel rather uncomfortable because extrovert traits are generally considered to be more desirable. How unfortunate, when introverts have so much to offer!  Here you will find information on what it means to be an introvert.  You'll also find information on what introversion is not.

Introverts are often misunderstood and maligned, but we're really an OK bunch of people.  Sure, we need our space, and we like peace and quiet.  But we're introspective and thoughtful.  We're incredible planners and thinkers.  Leave the craziness to the extroverts.

Traits of an Introvert:
-Recharges and reenergizes alone and quietly
-Too much socialization and activity wears an introvert down
-Generally quiet and very comfortable in their own company
-Often mistaken for being aloof, rude, or boring
-Energy focused inward
-After much socializing, tends to "shut down"
-May seem disengaged while conversation and activity is going on around them
-Often feels pressure to fake extroversion
-Usually has a large personal space and can be territorial
-Very creative and imaginative

Most introverts have at one point or another felt misunderstood or even discriminated against because of their introversion.  Many have had parents or partners try to get them to change in order to get them to be "more fun" and more outgoing.  It's easy to see why in this extroverted world, we sometimes feel out of place.

Introversion is not an affliction.  It isn't something we need to change about ourselves.  If anything, we need to educate those around us about introversion and the historic abuse of the word introvert.  I'm glad you're here and hope you will find this to be a good place to learn about and embrace your introversion.
